Cloud by Susie MacMurray
I was fortunate to be commissioned to photograph an exciting new art installation at The Great Hall in Winchester by the artist Susie MacMurray as part of the Hampshire 1914 exhibition. A powerful sculpture, using barbed wire and netting to form a cloud like structure hung in the centre of The Great Hall, accompanied by a collection of soldiers identity tags, upon which members of the public are invited to add names of family and friends that have been lost in war. The result is a powerful piece of art that works beautifully within its setting, and it was my job to attempt to capture the essence of Susie’s work in a series of photographs. I waited for a sunny day to capture the beautiful natural light that spilt through the narrow windows of the hall, subtly lighting the sculpture in an otherwise dimly lit room. Taking a series of multiple exposures for each shot (using a tripod of course) and then opening them as layers in photoshop and blending areas using the eraser tool, enabled me a good degree of control over the exposure of the final image.
The results are below, hope you enjoy them:
